Description

The Portland Public School’s District offices are located in downtown Portland Maine, in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Maine. The District, http://www.portlandschools.org/ serves four high schools, four middle schools, and eleven elementary schools, including the Bayside Learning Community school. As part of its Comprehensive Strategic Plan, the intent is to improve the District’s communications processes, creating strategy, renewing branding, and refreshing approaches, such as the website, and social media. As part of this strategy, attention will be given to ensuring outreach and communication to all members of our community, including the 36% of our students who live in homes where the primary language other than English is spoken and the 55% of our students who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Member Duties: The VISTA member will work directly with the District’s Executive Director of Communications and Community Partnerships, Communications Coordinator, and TV3 Manager to help develop and execute communication strategies using social media, developing online content, writing and visual representation, graphic design, photography and videography, community outreach and more. The member will post social media, gather and collect content for website posts, edit, write and post text, use graphic design software (AdobeSuite: Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop) to create infographics for both online posts and paper flyers and notices, take photos and videos at activities and events and edit for posting. Ideally, the member should have knowledge of video editing software, such as Final Cut Pro. The member will interact with both the internal and external community on an ongoing basis to collect information as needed. Strong organizational and written communication skills will be important. Program Benefits: Health Coverage,* Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend, Living Allowance, Access to org facilities, parking permit, Training, Childcare assistance if eligible, Relocation Allowance
