CHANGE SOMEONE'S LIFE, TEACH ENGLISH TO AN ADULT LEARNER
- Volunteer Opportunity posted by Volunteer English Program in Chester County
A few hours per week
Long-Term (6 months-1 year)
790 E Market Street
Dear Community Partners and Friends,
The Volunteer English Program (VEP) needs adult volunteers to tutor English to adult immigrants and refugees. VEP enhances the economic and social quality of life for immigrant families, community members, consumers, employers and employees in Chester County by providing tutoring for adults to improve their English language skills, their American cultural understanding, and their participation in the communities we share.
Volunteer tutors spend three hours per week helping an individual in their community. After going through training, they meet with a student twice per week for at least one year. While some are teachers, most are not. Business people in all fields, retirees and homemakers all successfully lead students to achieve English proficiency, citizenship, employment, and belonging.
Tutor Training Workshops are held several times throughout the year. Our next training session will be held at the Calvary Lutheran Church of West Chester, located at 730 S New Street, West Chester, PA 19382 on January 19, 22 and 23, 2018, from 9 a.m to 12 p.m. each day. There is a one-time fee of $35 to cover training materials and refreshments.
