About FFI

Freedom for Immigrants (FFI) is devoted to abolishing immigration detention, while ending the isolation of people currently suffering in this profit-driven system.

The Hosting Team

In order for people to be released from detention, they need to provide an address where they will be living. Especially for asylum seekers who have just arrived in the US and do not yet have community support, housing presents a barrier to leaving detention. The hosting team is comprised of volunteers who offer housing to people so they can leave detention and start a new life.

The Community Accompaniment Team

The Hosting Team form a part of the Community Accompaniment Team. When people are released from immigrant detention, they often need support to adjust to life on the outside. Often, people are living in a new community, or they may need support to rebuild their life with their families. In order to smooth this transition and give people the best possible chance to live happy, healthy, and productive lives, we have a Community Accompaniment Team offering case management to all clients that we bond out of detention. Each client will be allocated a volunteer village comprised of a host home, Community Accompaniment Volunteers and the Community Accompaniment Coordinator.

What Do Hosts Do?

Hosts offer a safe and welcoming place for asylum seekers to stay where they can learn English, adjust to American culture and prepare for self sufficiency. Hosts usually provide housing, food and financial support with basic needs. However, if hosts are not able to meet the financial needs of the placement, we can also try and find financial sponsors to support placements.
