Description

The Lutheran Settlement House BDVP offers a variety of ways to get involved! Here are just some of the opportunities we offer volunteers:

Direct Service

 Hotline counseling

 Babysitting for children who need to accompany a parent during counseling appointment

Non-Direct Service

 Assisting staff with community education and public speaking

 Event planning and coordination

 Public policy and legislative advocacy

 Outreach and awareness activities

 Clerical tasks

 Other ideas that you might have!

Volunteers providing direct service to clients (must complete the 40-hour training, and 5 – 10 hours of on the-job training required by the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV). The training is free for potential volunteers!

The 40-hour training is offered several times a year and includes:

1. A minimum of 40 hours of instruction including lectures, guest speakers, group exercises, role plays and audio-visual materials. 2. A minimum of 5 hours of supervised on-the-job experience (doublestaffing); and 3. Reading assignments from the training manual.

In addition to the basic 40-hour training, volunteers providing direct service will receive a minimum of an additional 8 hours of training each year on issues related to domestic violence service provision. These training's include in-service training and outside workshops.

Volunteers providing indirect service are asked to complete 6 online modules from our state coalition partner, PCADV, and to meet for an hour or two to talk about Lutheran's history and services -- so when folks ask at an event you're ready to answer.

All volunteers, no matter their capacity, need to complete a background check and child abuse clearance -- checking for violent felonies and child abuse/endangerment.

We are happy to explore these options and other opportunities with you!
