About Youth Group:

Masa’s Youth Group is a free, bilingual (Spanish and English) program for Mexican and Latinx youth between 14 and 18 years of age. The program aims to provide a safe and comfortable space for Latinx, immigrant and first generation youth to gather and build a positive and strong sense of self, including learning self-love and coping strategies; developing a critical lens about issues that affect black and brown youth; sharpening leadership skills, and deepening knowledge and appreciation for cultural legacy and history.

About the Volunteer Role:

A volunteer with Masa’s Youth Group program will support the virtual implementation of the program. Volunteers are expected to engage with youth during break-out rooms, support the implementation of lesson plans, assist youth in completing in-session assignments and other team building activities, and support with creating a safe, supportive and intentional virtual space for youth. If possible, volunteers should be available to chaperone socially distant activities/gatherings at a local park -although this is contingent upon the recommended safety guidelines around the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ideal Youth Group volunteer is a dynamic, detail-oriented, bilingual (Spanish/English) individual who is eager to learn more about positive youth development, especially with immigrant and first generation Black and Brown youth. ·      Providing virtual classroom support during sessions, including reviewing lesson plans in advance

·      Promoting a healthy environment for students during virtual sessions

·      Helping to chaperone and actively support group activities (if opportunity arises)

·      Supporting with miscellaneous administrative tasks, as needed

Requirements

·      Proficiency in Spanish is required

·      Have a passion for working with Black and Brown youth

·      Comfortable in a youth group setting, prior experience in youth development is strongly desired
