Summer Residential Volunteering at Frimhurst Family House
From the 23rd June to the 4th August 2019
- Frimhurst Family House is a residential centre and part of ATD Fourth World, a human rights and anti-poverty organisation working with individuals and families in persistent poverty. You can learn more at http://www.atd-uk.org/ and http://www.atd-quartmonde.org/.
What does summer residential volunteering at Frimhurst involve?
- Frimhurst is a large Victorian manor house surrounded by parkland all of which needs to be maintained. During your time staying here, you will support us with simple indoor and outdoor maintenance tasks such as painting, gardening, grounds work, etc.
- You will help prepare and run our annual Family Fun Day on the first Saturday of July. The Fun Day is open to all those who are involved with ATD Fourth World and we organise games, sports, creative workshops, refreshments and more. On the day you will meet the families we work with and some of our many friends and supporters.
- Last but not least, you will help us to run “Our Getting Away From It” summer family respite break, which will take part from the 29th July to the 2nd August. This project enables three families a holiday away from the day-to-day pressures and anxieties of poverty. It is an opportunity for parents and children to discover new activities, spend quality time together and create happy memories. We are constantly looking to improve the Frimhurst experience, so there is plenty of scope for our volunteers to share their skills and talents in ensuring that the families we welcome this summer have a really great time.
Please bring clothes suitable for indoor and outdoor manual work and be prepared for rain! Volunteers are expected to work from 9.30 to 4 pm from Monday to Friday. Weekends and evenings are free (with the exception of the Family Fun Day and during the “Getting Away From It” week), so you will have time to take advantage of the facilities at Frimhurst and the surrounding area.
Expenses and Accommodation:
ATD Fourth World will provide shared accommodation for all our summer volunteers. All work-related expenses are covered. Residential volunteers can also claim up to £75 per week in subsistence living expenses. All our residential volunteers are required to carry out a DBS check and will receive safeguarding training.
