Description

The volunteer project will be organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Education of Morocco. The project's aim is to contribute to the improvement of a residence for students with fewer opportunities. The international volunteer group will contribute to improving the living conditions for the students by painting the walls, windows and doors, making murals inside the center, gardening and landscaping. According to the volunteers’ skills, creativity and commitment, it’s possible to organize workshops, such as language classes, theater, games or handicrafts for the children and adolescents visiting the center. The volunteers are welcome to propose and realize their own ideas to make the work as effective as possible.

The international volunteers will have the opportunity to get in contact with the local people, learn about Moroccan customs and way of life, as well as learn some Arabic.

Project dates:

  • July 15 - July 30, 2018
  • August 1 - August 15, 2018

Location: Marrakech is the most important former imperial city in Morocco's history. It is also referred to as the "Red City", since most of the houses built in the traditional Moroccan style are painted in different shades of dark red. The city of Marrakesh is the capital of the mid-southwestern economic region of Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, near the foothills of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains. Like many North African cities, the city of Marrakesh comprises both an old fortified city (the médina) and an adjacent modern city (called Gueliz) for a total population of 1,070,000. It is served by Ménara International Airport (RAK) and a rail link to Casablanca and the north. Marrakech has the largest traditional market (souk) in Morocco and also has one of the busiest squares in Africa and in the world, Djemaa el Fna. The square bustles with acrobats, story-tellers, water sellers, dancers, musicians, snake and donkey charmers.
