Just as a traditional library lends books, the Tool Library lends tools—power tools, bike tools, gardening tools, and much more. A project of the Millvale Community Library, the Tool Library is free to library card holders in Pittsburgh and throughout Allegheny Country. Our goal is to promote self-sufficiency, reduce waste, and empower individuals and community groups.

The Tool Library launched in the summer of 2018—and we couldn’t have launched at all without volunteers. As we grow, we’re seeking volunteers to fill any number of roles.

Specifically, we’re looking for help with assisting borrowers in checking out tools. We could also use help with tool maintenance and research; promotion; and skill-building workshops. We are not looking for a tool guru—you don’t even have to be handy!—though you will certainly have the chance to learn more about tools. In short, there are lots of ways to help!

The Tool Library is a great community resource during Covid times. At the same time, the library is committed to ensuring a safe and healthy experience for volunteers of all ages.
