Nationalities Service Center’s Language Access and Proficiency Department is looking for dedicated volunteers to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to Limited English Proficient (LEP) Individuals in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

NSC is looking for:

·      ESL Teachers - Do you have previous teaching experience or certifications? This could be the role for you!

·      ESL Teaching Assistants – This role is great for someone looking to start their teaching career. The option to transition into an ESL Teacher is always open to our Teaching Assistants after they gain some experience.

NSC’s ESL Teachers and ESL Teaching Assistants have various backgrounds and interests, but are united by a desire to empower English language learners in the Philadelphia area. For those interested in gaining skills as teachers, we provide ongoing support through workshops, class observations and feedback, and peer mentorship.

The classes offer a very diverse and energetic setting. Students are adults 16 and older, who come from over 70 different countries and speak over 60 languages. We offer 7 different levels of classes, from beginner to advanced. The classes take place at our office on 1216 Arch Street Philadelphia, PA 19107.

NSC asks that our ESL Teachers and ESL Teaching Assistants commit to a 50 hour course over ten weeks. See below for more information regarding our upcoming class terms and schedules:

Upcoming Terms:

·      Spring 2018 (March 26 – June 4)

·      Summer 2018 (July 9 – September 17)

·      Fall 2018 (October 1 – December 11)

·      Winter 2019 (January 7 – March 27)

·      Spring 2019 (April 8 – June 17)

Class Times:

·      Monday and Wednesday Mornings: 9:30 – 12:00 pm

·      Monday and Wednesday Evenings: 6:30 – 9:00 pm

·      Tuesday and Thursday Mornings: 9:30 – 12:00 pm

·      Tuesday and Thursday Evenings: 6:30 – 9:00 pm
