Long-Term (6 months-1 year)
We learned a lot in our four year pilot project - about how to run a sleep-away camp, and what type of impact we can have. So, we've become a tax-exempt 501c3 and have plans to expand what we do.
We plant kids in nature. And, increasingly, that means kids who wouldn't otherwise attend summer camp. As a non-profit, we've grown our financial aid and scholarship capacity. This past summer most of our 100 campers received aid or full scholarships. We aim to grow this each year.
Not only do we know there's good done by immersing city kids in nature and great food, but we've found kids grow personally. So, we've become intentional about programming that develops independence, collaboration and problem solving skills. We want campers leaving knowing they are competent problem solvers who can make a difference.
We also figured our program is most beneficial to those wouldn't be able to attend camp without financial support, so we're expanding the number of kids we serve and focusing even more on low income kids.

Our financial records are basic. We pay most everything via one bank account and have that account tied into QuickBooks and our Chart of Accounts.
We seek a tax expert, i.e. for filing and for questions related to taxes.
