Thurston Asset Building Coalition is a network of social service providers, healthcare agencies, financial institutions, community and economic developers, education, workforce development, faith communities, businesses, and government agencies. We are a coordinator and mobilizer of partners who serve people with limited incomes. We define asset building as the strategies and supports that broaden and stabilize an individual or family’s resources – whether it is income, savings, housing, healthcare, education, or food – so that they may lead healthy, productive, and satisfying lives. We envision a Thurston County wherein all individuals and families are able to live, work, meet basic needs, and prosper.

The AmeriCorps VISTA will conduct outreach and manage and recruit volunteers in support of Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) awareness, Volunteers Income Assistance (VITA) – free tax preparation services and other financial literacy and asset building programs supported by the Thurston Asset Building Coalition (TABC). In addition, through marketing and communications the VISTA will build the TABC’s capacity to support and foster collaboration and information sharing. Lastly, the VISTA will coordinate, promote and help plan TABC events connecting partners, community services, business, faith groups, individuals and government agencies in an effort to foster collaboration in support t of low income individuals and families. The VISTA member will support the alleviation of poverty in our community by increasing awareness, access, and utilization of financial literacy resources, thus impacting the self-sufficiency of individuals experiencing poverty.
