Masa is seeking dedicated volunteers to provide remote summer academic support to elementary school students in the South Bronx! Masa partners with Mexican and Latino children, youth and families to develop strong learners and leaders who fully contribute the broader community. Our community-led, integrated model engages the entire family, grounded in a deep commitment to strengthening literacy, leadership and power for Mexican, Central-American and Indigenous people. We foster a culturally responsive learning community in which families engage with direct service and advocacy programs to dismantle barriers to success.
About the Summer Literacy Intensive Program:
A solid foundation in reading skills sets young people up for academic success for the rest of their lives! Masa invites you to join our literacy intensive summer program, which supports children in building their reading skills so they are better prepared for the academic year.
We are seeking dedicated volunteers to support this program. Under the guidance of an expert literacy instructor, you will implement targeted lesson plans in small groups of students in either grades K-2 or 3-5. This is a great opportunity to provide academic support to children of immigrants in an already historically underserved area in New York City. Your support of this program helps young people improve their literacy skills so they can start the next academic year as confident learners and readers!
Mondays – Thursdays from July 27th through August 20th
Work with small groups of students to provide intensive literacy instruction using a lesson plan created by our expert literacy instructor (who is on Zoom to provide support). Model enthusiasm for reading!
Requirements are as follows:
