General Member Responsibilities and Roles

General Steering Committee (SC) member responsibilities include:

● General dedication to the leadership and elevation of Richmond and West Contra

Costa County families, particularly those from Black and Latinx communities

● Remain aware of local community needs and resources

● Attend bi-monthly meetings, or as needed, and remain responsive to

correspondence from Executive Director and other SC members. Members must

attend no less than 75% of meetings in a year

● Arrive to bi-monthly meetings prepared; having read the Executive Director Report

and all other supplementals

● Act as an ambassador for BBK’s mission and vision, foster community relationships,

and occasionally attend BBK-Sponsored events as requested

● Commit to fundraising support and BBK’s annual pledge as well as meets direct

needs of the organization (e.g. grant-writing, individual donor support, house party

planning, etc.)

● Contribute to the strategic vision of BBK when called upon to do so through formal

and informal opportunities

Assist in increasing the impact and effectiveness of BBK projects via subject-matter

expertise and community insight

● Shape board development goals to complement BBK’s priorities and needs

● Contribute to fiscal oversight and general governance of the organization through

direct communication with accountants, legal team, and project advisor on an

“as-needed basis”.

● Ensure that BBK is ethically and responsibly managed

● Avoid conflicts of interest by reviewing contracts and partnerships

Management of Executive Director’s performance

Time Commitment: 2-6 hours each month, including meeting times

Terms of office: Two (2) years
