Description

Our Friendly Visitor program provides companions to older adults in the Metro Louisville area. Senior participants are matched with volunteers to provide friendship and emotional support to help seniors maintain their independence and well-being. Research shows that engagement with a caring volunteer is one of the most effective methods of preventative care.

With the 65+ population expected to increase to 20 percent by 2030, up from 12 percent in 2000, there has never been a more crucial time to support older adults.

In order to foster the relationship, we ask our volunteers to commit to their senior friend on a regular basis – two times per month for a minimum of one year.

Activities are decided by the volunteer and the senior adult, and some of the most popular ones include:

  • Arts & crafts
  • Reading
  • Playing games
  • Walking
