Volunteer Resources Coordinator

“Those who can, do. Those who can do more, volunteer.”

Are you passionate about giving back to your community? Can you motivate people from diverse backgrounds to feel part of a team that can achieve extraordinary results?

Cancer Support Community Central NJ (CSCCNJ) is continuing to deliver its vital programs and services during the pandemic to people with cancer or those affected by a loved one’s diagnosis or death. We are operating virtually and have continued to coordinate volunteer projects for individuals and families who want to help maintain the gardens on our property or office projects that can be done from home.

We are seeking a few highly motivated individuals to volunteer their time and passion to help us ensure that no one ever faces cancer alone by mobilizing the community to support our mission through volunteering. Successful candidates coach others and have experience effectively managing and coordinating projects, events and activities. This role requires a high degree of teamwork in order to create a seamless and meaningful experience for our volunteers.

Consider applying if you are a high energy “people person” who works well with others; views being organized as a challenge, not a chore; has a working knowledge of technology; possesses good phone skills and would enjoy calling and talking to volunteers.

This is an ongoing volunteer commitment for someone willing to make a commitment (no less than a year) since continuity is important for managing volunteers.

Responsibilities include:

Collaborating with staff members to determine volunteer needs and requirements.

Conducting ongoing volunteer recruitment efforts, including promoting volunteer opportunities, screening applicants, onboarding of new volunteers, and performance and effectiveness.

Scheduling volunteers for various activities as needed and ensure that volunteers are maintaining their commitments.

Managing the volunteer database, including calendars, scheduling, and other assignments.

Participating in the development of high school volunteer and college intern program and lead implementation

Working the team to build relationships with corporate partners in support of employee community engagement strategies

REQUIRED SKILLS

A genuine appreciation and enthusiasm for the role of volunteers

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Leadership experience working with volunteers in a community/non-profit setting is preferred

Must be patient, thoughtful, and supportive of a wide variety of personalities, cultures, abilities, and needs among volunteers and the public

Demonstrates coaching skills

Computer literacy with standard word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software

Possess team building skills and has the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Ability to lift at least 25 pounds
