  • Volunteer Opportunity posted by CADIP

Short-Term (few weeks/months)

Western Region

In this project, we are collaborating with Uganda Wildlife Authority and Uganda Tourism Board to preserve, protect and promote the site given its status as World Heritage Site.

The Ruwenzori Mountains National Park covers nearly 100,000 ha in western Uganda and comprises the main part of the Ruwenzori mountain chain, which includes Africa's third highest peak (Mount Margherita: 5,109 m). The region's glaciers, waterfalls and lakes make it one of Africa's most beautiful alpine areas. The park has many natural habitats of endangered species and a rich and unusual flora comprising, among other species, the giant heather.

Volunteers will coordinate heritage club activities and produce awareness materials and screen relevant heritage films. They will also run a heritage gala and an awareness raising workshop with debates, reflections and discussions on World Heritage issues, involving local communities working closely with the site manager.

Kabarole district is located 324 km from Kampala central Region, the project is located in the western region.

Duration of the project: 1 to 12 months. The program is running throughout the year.
