About SELF: Sustainable Empowerment Leadership Foundation

We are a dynamic and nimble nonprofit organization, legally registered in California as a 501(c)3 as of October 2016, but mainly working out of rural Honduras in the municipalities of Cantarranas and Morocelí in the Departments of El Paraíso and Francisco Morazan. We take a broad approach to supporting healthy communities in Honduras including:

-providing direct healthcare and dental services

-initiating and maintaining clean water projects

-creating and supporting microenterprises

-improving access to clinics and schools with infrastructure construction projects

-providing and advocating for high quality education

Job description:

·      Learn about accounting practices and systems of our NGO, working alongside our Honduran accountant

·      Help complete Honduran monthly reports of income and expenses

·      Assist with developing monthly office budgets, and larger specific project and grant budgets

·      Maintain donation information, using our DMS software: Network for Good

·      Maintain US accounting records with QuickBooks Online

·      Facilitate communication regarding our organization’s finances, especially between the US and Honduras

·      Maintain accounting procedures, policies and systems of internal controls within the organization to ensure the integrity of all financial aspects of all of our programs

·      Initiate and build alliances with US individuals and organizations to help develop, recruit and support our organization’s financial and accounting strategies

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Basic qualifications:

-Current undergraduate or graduate student, working towards a degree in an appropriately related field

 in accounting and finance

-Familiarity with QuickBooks

-Record of academic achievement and seriousness of purpose

-Interest in working with nonprofits

-Ability to travel to Honduras for minimum 4 weeks and flexibility with working in rural Honduras

-Some level of ability to communicate in Spanish

-Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint

-Competency with professional communication skills including emails, telephone and in-person meetings

 

 

Responsibilities

-Strong ability to organize and follow through with meetings, maintaining digital files, and dynamic schedules.

-Initiate and maintain alliances with potential volunteers and other organizations and nonprofits.

-Strategize, both independently and as a team, ways to improve programs, by maximizing efficiency while always maintaining respect for our vision and mission.

-Work independently as a self-starter, initiate activities and meet deadlines

-Work well in a team, recognizing personal responsibilities and meeting team goals

-Ability to accept and incorporate feedback and constructive criticism
