Would you like to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Oregon's low-income Latino families? You don't need experience, just the desire to help!
Through considerable volunteer support El Programa Hispano Católico in Gresham offers free tax preparation to the Latino community, providing taxpayers a culturally-specific alternative to unlicensed preparers and paying to prepare their basic tax returns. Each season our volunteers assist 1,000 low-income taxpayers secure over $2 million in refunds and with your help we can continue this success! By taking our free training and volunteering just four to five hours per week during tax season you will provide an invaluable service, become part of a like-minded team of people and will gain a unique and meaningful experience to add to your resume.
Trainings begin December 29th and are offered throughout January, with volunteer service running January 23rd to April 15th. Evening and weekend shifts available. We offer the following positions depending on volunteer interest and availability:
Tax Preparer: Receive free training and learn a useful new skill! Attend 30-hour training over (4) Saturdays, December 29th to January 19th and certify to prepare basic personal tax returns with IRS software. Must have intermediate to high level of Spanish. No experience required.
Intake Assistant: Don’t have time for a 30-hour training but still want to help? Assist taxpayers with IRS and agency intake forms. Must have intermediate to high level of Spanish. No experience required. Free 3-hour training provided in January.
Interpreter: Are you an Interpreter wanting to further develop your skill? Provide interpretation services for between taxpayers and Quality Review volunteers. Previous Interpreter experience required, formal training helpful.
Quality Review: Do you know someone with tax experience? No Spanish required! A Quality Reviewer’s main role is to ensure high-quality, accurate preparation and is critical to the success of our program. Continuing Education (CE) credit available.
This program is completely volunteer-based--the more volunteers we receive the more taxpayers we are able to help! Orientations take place throughout November and December. Training spaces can fill quickly, please contact our Site Coordinator Karen Keating email@example.com at your earliest convenience with any questions and interest you have, and to schedule an orientation.
