Reading Empowers was formed with the mission of improving literacy among young children. Our goal is to instill in the students an interest in reading at a young age, and our hope is that this will develop into a lifelong love and passion.

This upcoming school semester (Fall 2018), we will be hosting Saturday morning reading sessions at P.S. 1 and P.S 124, both in Lower Manhattan and P.S. 251 in Queens. We are looking for volunteers to join us!

P.S. 1 is located on 8 Henry Street NY NY 10002 in LES Manhattan.

P.S. 124 is located on 40 Division Street NY NY 10002 in LES Manhattan.

P.S. 251 is located on 144-51 Arthur Street Springfield Gardens.

The program will host one to two reading sessions per month, reading with students in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade. Each session is about two hours, during which volunteers and students are broken up into groups, with each group consisting of 2-3 volunteers and 6-8 students. The two hour sessions consist of reading, writing, and an arts and crafts activity with the students.

Reading Empowers is a non-profit organization in the state of New York and recognized as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization by the IRS. Please feel free to visit our website
