Current student or recent graduate of an undergraduate or graduate program. Interns are generally required to work a flexible schedule of 20+ hrs a week, which may include evening and weekend hours. However, Fundación BAI is mindful of the other tasks and duties an intern may need to attend to while in Merida. Normally the internship period is during the summer, a school semester, or a field study term, although exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis. Interns can also volunteer for longer periods of time if requested.

Brazos Abiertos Volunteer Duties:

-Recruit and manage internship program profiles on job, internship and volunteer platforms

-Coordinate orientation for incoming interns including giving presentations about the foundation, HIV/AIDS, and organize the signing of necessary documents for entry

-Coordinate and supervise the tasks of interns

-Mediate communication between interns, other staff members, allied organizations and director

-Coordinate and facilitate activities, workshops, and events with interns and other staff

Living in Mérida, México:

An added benefit of interning with BAI is its location in the large, safe and lively metropolis of Mérida, México that is well-known for a variety of attractions like its many cultural events, museums, restaurants, cafes and natural attractions like the nearby cenotes and Mayan ruins. It is the capital of the Yucatan state and is just under an hour’s drive away from the beaches that rest on the Gulf of Mexico and is proudly the second safest city in the entire country of Mexico and home to a lively expat community.
