Street Sense Media seeks a dynamic and experienced filmmaker to lead its film workshop.

The mission of Street Sense Media is to end homelessness in the Washington, DC area by empowering people in need with the skills, tools and confidence to succeed. Together we use a range of media platforms to raise awareness and spotlight solutions to homelessness in our community.

Founded in 2014, the film workshop, which operates as a co-op, has produced five 30-minute films to date. These films were screened at two, sold out premier events at E Street Cinema in 2015 and have since been shown at smaller events throughout the DC metro area. The complete films and trailers can be viewed at

In the workshop, participants create and share visual narratives from the viewpoint of the street. The workshop’s leader runs a 90-minute, weekly session where participants learn skills in directing, editing and cinematography. These sessions are also used to develop storylines for new films, with a goal of producing two 30-minute films a year.

The workshop leader should be familiar with the issue of homelessness and comfortable working with persons of various backgrounds and challenges including mental illness.

The position is supported by a small stipend. Interested applicants should send a letter of interest and resume to
