Cambodia Sports Project Volunteer

The Cambodia Sports Project is based in the town of Siem Reap, home to the breathtaking UNESCO designated World Heritage site of the Angkor Temples.

The programme provides regular structured coaching sessions in football (soccer), volleyball, athletics and “community sports” - games designed to give underprivileged children attending charitable projects and NGOs a fun way of exercising and experiencing the benefits of team sports.

At weekends during the cooler dry season Globalteer runs Siem Reap’s popular Junior Soccer League, and during the rainy season we also run a Junior Volleyball League.

And in 2013 we launched the Globalteer Games – a hugely popular day where hundreds of children experienced the thrill of friendly sporting competition in the setting of a real sports stadium and got the chance to test their newly acquired sporting skills against each other – from high jump and long jump to sack races and three-legged races.

In all, the Globalteer sports programme provides access to sports coaching and competition to over 1,000 underprivileged children in more than 20 local partner projects and schools who would otherwise never have the chance to play sports and compete with their peers in organised competition.

Volunteers work alongside our sports team from Monday to Friday year-round, and at weekends you will assist with the coaching and the running of the Sunday tournaments and leagues. If you join in the weekend events then you can take a day off during the week.

The Sunday soccer league runs from December to April and theSunday volleyball league from July to September. In June we stage the Globalteer Games and in the weeks running up to the games weekday coaching focusses on getting children ready for all the fun of the games.

As well as coaching in soccer, volleyball, and various other sports – depending on volunteer skills and suitability for the children and projects we work with - you will also assist in planning and designing training sessions, maintaining and auditing sports equipment and otheradmin tasks associated with running the programme.

Why Globalteer?

As a UK registered charity, Globalteer is different than many other organisations who connect volunteers with delete projects around the world, as we are 100% not-for-profit, so the more money we raise, the more we can invest in helping the delete projects we work with.

By volunteering with us you will be helping established projects with long-term goals to bring practical and achievable solutions. All the projects we work with have been chosen by Globalteer because they are answering a genuine need, and are working towards making asustainable difference in their local community.

Because our projects have clear objectives and a demand for volunteers to help achieve these objectives, there will always be work for you to do - every volunteer has a vital role to play during their placement.

Where your money goes

The placement fee that we ask for not only covers the costs of organising your placement, but unlike most other organisations, a donation is always made directly to the project on behalf of each volunteer – no matter how short the placement. So not only will you be helping the elephants while volunteering, but your donation will support the welfare of the elephants and the sanctuary's long-term objectives in the years to come!

We don't charge a registration or application fee, and you are required to pay nothing until you are accepted and ready to commit to your placement. More than that, we clearly list everything that is included in your placement on our website, which as a minimum includes accommodation, transfer on arrival, in-country support, letter of reference (if requested) and orientation.

As a charity, we are legally required to ensure that all money we receive is used to achieve our charitable objectives, so you can be sure that every dollar donated by you will go towards a good cause!
