Want to become the bedrock of a new, exciting institution?

Join Maine's premier science museum - become a MMGM docent!

The Maine Mineral and Gem Museum contains the largest selection of Maine minerals available along with one of the most varied collection of meteorites on earth.

The multilayered, interactive exhibits enable the visitor to immerse themselves in what interests them the most - minerology, history, modern mining, science and outer space.

Docents are the touchstones of MMGM's educational policy. Facilitating discussion and learning, docents add meaning and provide a link between the exhibits and the audience in a personal and memorable way.

Training is provided year round covering historic and contempoary mining, basic minerology and geology ,an introduction to meteorites, and basic museum practices. This knowledge, supported by specialised field trips, enables docents to be comfortable with our exhibits and the stories they tell.

MMGM considers the minimum volunteer time commitment to be 2 x 4 hour shifts every 30 days. (adjusted accordingly for seasonal residents)

Want to meet like minded individuals, learn more about minerals, gems and meteorites and promote the beauties of Western Maine?
