Reports to: Health360 Executive Director

Purpose of Position: The VISTA member is responsible for the planning and development of an Opioid Addiction Prevention Program


·        Bachelors’ degree in health, public health, social work or related field

·        Mission driven

·        Ability to work independently and as part of a high functioning team

·        Good written and verbal communication skills

·        Highly organized

·        Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint

·        Personal/professional knowledge of public health, mental health, substance use issues

·        Understanding of local, state and national mental health resources

·        Enthusiasm for improving health outcomes of underserved and low-income communities

·        Strong community outreach skills and experience

·        Skills and experience facilitating diverse groups and creating/maintaining a positive, effective learning environment


·        Create and lead a workgroup comprised of community members and representatives from youth serving organizations, local colleges and universities, mental health organizations and public health organizations to provide input and leadership in the development and implementation of a community based opioid crisis intervention

·        Compile an inventory of opioid epidemic educational interventions in the local community

·        Complete an Upstream Quality Improvement Strategic Plan that identifies addressable upstream causes and solutions to pressing health care challenges

·        Research evidenced based or evidenced informed educational interventions and rate their applicability to the local community and their effectiveness at building protective factors and reducing risk factors that will help break the cycle of poverty

·        Craft an educational program that addresses an upstream cause or causes identified in the strategic planning process

·        Solicit and integrate expert input from mental health providers and education leaders regarding the planned educational program

·        Build wide community awareness and support of the program through promotion and media recognition

·        Measure key metrics of success including VISTA Program Performance Measures

·        Provide summary data at regular intervals to guide quality improvement

·        Coordinate with health profession schools to recruit students to deliver the training

·        Coordinate with secondary schools and other youth serving organizations to schedule and implement the education sessions


·        Complete a 12-month commitment beginning August 27, 2018

·        AmeriCorps members receive an $14,666 stipend

·        $5,920 Education Award upon completion of service commitment

·        Members must be 18 years or older

·        Bachelor’s Degree Required
