Overall purpose of the role
The RSPB has partnered with Sports England for an exciting new project called 'Active in Nature' which aims to encourage people to experience nature in new and active ways.
At RSPB Rainham Marshes we're offering a suite of outdoor activities for visitors to get involved in, one of which is a cycle hire scheme. This gives visitors a fantastic opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of the reserve which could incorporate exploring the river wall and going further into neighbouring valleys. These routes give participants the opportunity to see a wide range of wildlife including seals along the Thames River, lapwing, marsh harriers and a variety of insects residing in the plant life.
We need you to help us keep the bikes at their best! We are looking for someone to check over the bikes, complete basic repairs and potentially help with Dr Bike sessions, engaging with the public.
What’s in it for you:
An excellent opportunity to gain experience in bicycle maintenance as well as taking part in the general running of the scheme.
There is also opportunities to get involved in cycling events or assisting in the visitor centre too.
You'll get to meet lots of amazing people from fellow volunteers, staff and reserve visitors, and help us keep Rainham Marshes a special place.
Gain a real insight into the work of the RSPB – the largest nature conservation charity in Europe.
