Make a REAL difference in Sri Lanka with Medical Internship Program

Description

This essential program supplies much-needed medical volunteers on placements in Wattala, a suburb of the country’s capital and largest city Colombo. The placement is based in a private hospital with around 100 beds including inpatient and outpatient units. Between 300-700 patients from surrounding communities visit the hospital on a daily basis for a range of medical treatments. Volunteers will be assigned to a nurse or resident doctor who they will work alongside throughout their stay. Volunteers will find that they are playing an important role in assisting with the medical needs of the people of Sri Lanka and helping to make a difference to their wellbeing, and ultimately their lives.


Goals of this Project:

  • Improve the health and long term wellbeing of some of Sri Lanka’s most impoverished people
  • Provide cross-cultural communication between volunteers and locals, share knowledge and exchange ideas

This program offers an amazing opportunity for suitable applicants who are 18 years and over to work alongside qualified medical professionals and gain first-hand insight into the Sri Lankan healthcare system. It is open to those with experience and/or education in the field of medicine, as well as med-school and pre-med students. Ideally, volunteers on this project will have at least a basic knowledge of the local language in order to communicate effectively with patients and staff, though this is not a pre-requisite. Naturally, all applicants must also have a genuine willingness to help, show drive and initiative, and bring a positive 'can-do' attitude. If this sounds like you, we want you on the team!
