Description

Dreamfar High School Marathon (DHSM) challenges youth to reach their full potential--physically, emotionally, socially, and academically--through a mentor-supported marathon training program. DHSM has trained over 1000 students from 15 schools in the Greater Boston area.

DHSMr mentors run alongside youth and help them train for and complete the Providence Marathon by providing companionship, motivation, and support. Mentors meet with their students Saturday mornings (November-May) at the Brookline Teen Center. Each successful run demonstrates the importance of physical activity, the value of hard work, commitment, and team support. As students cross the finish line, they experience the impossible becoming possible and are empowered to tackle any of life’s challenges.Mentors run as part of the whole team, but are specifically matched in "running families" consisting of 4-6 mentors and 8-12 students. No prior running experience is required to volunteer for this program. All mentors will receive training from a certified marathon coach, physical therapist, and nutritionist.
