My Child’s Cancer (MCC) is an international nonprofit active in the US and Israel and established in 2010 to provide critical support services to primarily Jewish and Israeli families fighting childhood cancer.

The organization was founded by Oded Grinstein following his daughter’s diagnosis with a rare sarcoma and the long, difficult journey to safe her life.

MCC provides personalized, situational research into treatment options and other critical support services — like relocation and translation assistance — to families battling this terrible disease. Our work empowers families to be proactive about the treatment course for their child's cancer and this significantly improves their child’s chance of survival.

MCC is seeking a diverse and exceptional group of professionals, business or foundation executives, medical professionals, mental health professionals, attorneys, educators, or community leaders to serve on its Board of Directors. Candidates must have a passionate commitment to our work and mission. Candidates should have strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills, patience, good humor, and must be able to participate in and sustain collaborative group efforts.

Experience serving on a nonprofit Board is helpful but not required. Medical or research professionals, particularly those within in the field of pediatric cancer research and/or treatment, are highly sought. Survivors or those who have been affected by pediatric cancer are also highly sought.

The Board of Directors for MCC serves as ambassadors and advocates for the organization and champions of its mission and vision. Board Directors serve two-year terms and are expected to attend four meetings per year (currently a mix of virtual and in-person) in addition to committee service and special meetings. As ambassadors of MCC, attendance at fundraising and other special events is anticipated.

Essential Functions:

a.   Oversight. The Board supports the philanthropic goals of the organization. Members act in a manner that contributes to the effective operation of the Board, and work with fellow members, volunteers, and staff to assure that the organization functions well.

b. Development. The Board plays a leadership role in fund development for the organization. In addition to providing an annual gift, members identify potential funding sources and serve a key role in securing mission-critical funding.

c.    Finances. The Board is responsible for ensuring MCC is fiscally sound and sustainable. In order to do this, the Board exercises prudence and sound fiscal practices in the control and transfer of organizational funds.

d.   Network Building. As appropriate, use personal and professional contacts to benefit the organization and expand its influence, without compromising ethics or trespassing on relationships.

e.    Succession Planning. Each member of the Board supports the stewardship, relationship building and cultivation of new members.

f.     Serving on Committee. Committees are formed and mandated by the Board to perform a specific set of tasks or to assist the Board in executing its governance role while the Board is not in session. Much of the work of the Board is accomplished in committees. Board members are expected to join and attend meetings of at least one (1) committee.

Board Members are expected to serve a two-year term. Board orientation is provided.
