Long-Term (6 months-1 year)
The volunteers will receive a training and then will apply their skills while teaching first aid to local people. The objective of the project is to contribute to First Aid Awareness and Training of Togolese communities so that local people can acquire life saving skills and learn how to respond to emergencies.
Training will be given to the volunteers by trainers of the National Service of Occupational and Sports Medicine (the Occupational Health and Safety Committee). Then the volunteers, together with a team of the Red Cross, will organize awareness sessions on the importance of learning first aid: basic life saving skills. After their training in first aid, the volunteers will in turn train young people of the village as peer educators. This will ensure that after the volunteers leave, these peer educators will carry on and multiply their actions in the community for the sustainability of the project.
At the end of the project, the volunteers will organize a presentation in the village to demonstrate the different first aid skills and techniques that were the subject of the project. The training will cover topics such as releasing a victim, recovery position, treating burns, how to stop bleeding, airway obstruction, etc.
