Advocates are volunteers who report to the NYP Emergency Department (68th St. and York Ave.) to support survivors of Domestic Violence, Family Violence, and/or Sexual Assault. They are the first-responders to survivors when they come to the hospital and they are crucial to the survivor's experience. Advocates choose on-call shifts that are available around the clock on weekdays, weeknights and weekends. The hours of each shift varies, anywhere from 8-12 hours, during which an Advocate has agreed to be available to promptly come to the Emergency Dept. if a patient has disclosed any of the above experiences. Advocates attend a mandatory 40-hour training program (evenings of February 27th, March 8th, 13th, 2018 ; all day on March 3rd, 4th, 17th, 18th, 2018) and commit to 3 on-call shifts per month for a minimum of 1 year.

Questions are welcomed! Concerns will be addressed! All of the details are reviewed during our group interviews.
