This position is sponsored by Strong City Baltimore in Baltimore, MD; and the VISTA member will serve with Bmore4Kidz in Baltimore, MD. Strong City sponsors 30 VISTA projects at nonprofit, government, and community organizations throughout Baltimore City and Maryland. Established in 1969 to help neighborhoods become safer, better places to live, Strong City's mission is to build and strengthen neighborhoods and people. Strong City will provide support to Bmore4kidz and the VISTA member throughout the year, including recruitment, training, resources, and professional development opportunities, and meetings.

Bmore4Kidz's mission is to develop and deliver experience-based, life changing learning programs to children and youth by harnessing their creativity/energy to pursue their talents and passion; creating a mindset of innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership; developing character based on positive values and tangible role models; and equipping children to transition from school life to adulthood by helping them transform ideas to tangible ventures to create economic and social change Bmore4Kidz believes that every child should be provided all the opportunities available for them to explore and find what their passion is.

Build capacity via developing, implementing, and engaging community partners to serve and provide Young Makers Programs to diverse, low income 4th-8th Grade and their families in East Baltimore.

The goal of this project is to increase financial capacity of Bmore4Kidz Young Makers by developing, implementing and engaging the community and community partners to serve and provide Young Makers Programs to diverse, low income 4th-8th Grade and their families in East Baltimore, Maryland. As a result of the VISTA member’s service there will be an increase in recruiting, retaining and training of mentors, volunteers and community members; a secured financial funding for the Young Makers Program is established and an effective and impactful Young Makers Program is built.

The VISTA will:

1) Increase family, community, and volunteer engagement for Bmore4Kidz Young Makers

2) Increase financial capacity and resources for Bmore4Kidz Young Makers through grant-seeking and community outreach events.

3) Develop and support efforts to increase STEAM student success through recruitment and community engagement.

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is not a job per se, but a full time national service opportunity.

Benefits include: living allowance, relocation and child care assistance if eligible, health allowance, monthly travel reimbursement, choice of an education award or cash stipend, and non-competitive eligibility for federal employment upon completion. Preferred candidates will be at least 18 years of age, demonstrate relevant experience for the position, and exhibit professionalism, commitment to service, and leadership potential.
