A few hours per week
Short-Term (few weeks/months)
5030 Roosevelt Way NE
Using short videos from our collection, storybooks curated by the U-District branch of Seattle Public Library, and interactive activities centered on a theme, Children’s Hour offers one hour of auditory, visual, and tactile styles of learning in a fun environment – all at no cost to families. Our most recent Children’s Hour series saw an average of 10 children each week, plus their guardians. The format of each Children’s Hour is: read a storybook, show a short video, facilitate an arts and/or science activity, read another storybook, and close with another short video. Previous series themes have included: Around the World, Celebrating Seasons, Exploring Animal Life, and Transportation.
As a volunteer you would assist with program execution weekly on Thursday mornings from about 9am to noon; research and review videos to screen weekly; research and prepare children’s activities; complete log sheet; and assist in planning future program series.
Interested volunteers should have a passion for movies and community building. Experience working with children preferred. Scarecrow volunteers are eligible for free rentals (some restrictions apply).
