About

The International Institute of Rural Reconstruction [IIRR] is one of the world’s leading rural-focused NGOs. It maintains a staff of 200+ in 9 offices across Africa, Asia, and North America. The organizations’ programs build economic opportunities for rural people by improving their health, education, and environment. Currently, IIRR's focus is its COVID-19 rural response.

Though IIRR has delivered over 60 years of impact that has improved millions of lives, it remains agile and committed to testing, prototyping (and even failing) in order to continually learn how best to deliver the most cost-effective impact to communities who need it most.

Presently, IIRR is expanding its reach by establishing a network of IIRR Student Chapters. These chapters at universities across the United States will host events that will directly support IIRR. As a result of these initiatives, chapters will expand IIRR’s outreach and spread awareness about the needs of rural communities and the importance of supporting those communities. Students will benefit from the ability to affect social change, gain leadership and advocacy experience, and prepare for possible careers in policy, research, and international development fields.

We are encouraging students who are motivated, passionate and results-driven to join us and become leaders in establishing IIRR Student Chapters!

How to Apply

Profile

-    You get it. Your mission in the world is to do good, but you don’t have to be in the field getting your feet dirty (at least not every day of every week).

-    You are a high-achieving student who is committed to academic excellence.

-     You have some experience with student organizations at your university.

-     You are a leader and are comfortable taking charge to ensure goals are met, while also respecting other members of your team and collaborating to create the best strategies.

-     You are detailed. You double-check and often triple-check your work before turning it in and you expect the same from others.

-     You are a master-juggler and receive fulfillment from advanced logistical tasks. As a result, you can balance your academics with other commitments and still produce a high quality of work.

-     You’ve traveled, and while that's not really a requirement, you know what matters more is a real comfort around others who might eat, speak, dance, and yodel differently than you do – and you just love that about our world.

Description

-     Create your IIRR Student Chapter at your university.

-     Build an executive board, establish a membership base, and select a faculty advisor.
