Time Commitment

A few hours per month

Wildlife Waystation wants you to become a docent for our guided animal tours! Docents are our most valuable ambassadors to the public when people come to visit. Most tours are offered on Saturdays for groups of approximately 10 persons. However, there are often opportunities for tours during weekday business hours and occasional evenings. Wildlife Waystation also hosts tours for special events monthly. Docents have the special opportunity to inspire guests and share the mission of our work while telling the stories of our animal residents. If you’re outgoing and love learning facts about animals, then this is for you!

Our Docent Program is specialized and organized separately from our other volunteer orientation program. Requirements include:

  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must complete the Docent Training Program. The Docent Training Program includes:
  • Wildlife Waystation’s Orientation Class offered 9am-11:45am the 2nd Saturday of every month
  • Specialized Docent Training Class to review tour materials
  • Shadow tours with current docents while acting as safety back-up
  • Final walk-through review of our facility with a current docent to make sure you’re ready to lead!
  • There is a non-refundable $25 fee to sign up for the program
  •  Required to guide at least one 90 minute tour group per month
