Women of Color Writers' Workshop & Community Seeks Volunteer Assistant - Park Slope, Brooklyn,


This position is open to women who have a deep interest in writing, a concern for marginalized women writers and can contribute 5 hours a week. Transportation cost will be provided hours are flexible.

In exchange for this service, the Assistant will be invited to attend all WOC writers' workshops and events, special retreats, guest poetry and creative writers' workshops and submit their writing for review to the upcoming Anthology "Boundaries & Borders, all without charge.


This is a great opportunity to help promote the writing of women of color writers from across the globe. It also allows you to write creatively with small groups of women writers, share feedback, and work toward personal goals or publishing.


The Workshop is held four or more times a year - once a week in five week cycles. In addition, WOC holds readings/performances, guest poets, creative writing artists workshops, and publications.

The position requires a commitment of at least 5 or more hours a week, with time flexibility. The Assistant will assist the director and facilitator in an administrative capacity to promote the workshops and events, work through the new anthology which is nearing completion, promote on social media and the website along with other activities related to the workshop and the Writer's community.


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • be reliable and punctual
  • be friendly, and personable
  • have good writing skills and enjoy writing - beginners are welcome
  • should be interested in the art of writing
  • be well organized, creative, and detail oriented
  • be capable of meeting deadlines and following through on task


Suggested education:

  •  Associates, Bachelor's, MFA, other
