SOAR Immigration Legal Services, a program of Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon, is seeking a volunteer Citizenship Instructor to bring their classroom experience and teaching skills to our new Spanish-language U.S. citizenship class! This class is every Friday morning from October 11 to December 13 at the East Portland Community Office (1017 NE 117th Ave Portland, OR 97220). This class is a unique opportunity to help Spanish-speakers prepare for their U.S. citizenship exam and interview. Help adult immigrants and refugees in your community build the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to gain U.S. citizenship!

Our Citizenship classes are designed to prepare residents for the U.S. Citizenship test, which typically includes an evaluation of speaking, reading, and writing abilities in English, as well as questions about U.S. history and civics. Most participants in this class would be eligible to take the exam in Spanish due to USCIS language exemptions. You will support students in preparing for all components of the USCIS naturalization interview and exam; demystify form N-400, the application for citizenship; and prepare learners to succeed during their naturalization interview. Training, lesson plans, textbooks, and additional learning materials are provided. Previous adult education and English/Spanish teaching experience desired. Bring your enthusiasm, patience, and commitment to the full class session. Join us today and help to prepare new American citizens! Contact Angie Kelly at akelly@emoregon.org or call (503) 384-2482 ext. 116. More information about SOAR is on our website at soarlegal.org and at Facebook.com/SOARlegal.
