Description

The rescue center in Embakasi aims to give children living in Soweto Slum a place of peace and happiness where they can grow up in safety and are provided with quality accommodation and basic needs like proper nutrition as well as high-quality education.

The center is giving hope to children whose hope seemed cut off by poverty, crime and HIV/AIDS. It started as a support center for orphans and vulnerable children. The main aim was to give them the opportunity to go to school as well as to provide basic needs like food and clothes. In total, the center has 53 kids and 34 of them live there. The center has several programs e.g. school program, youth program, feeding program and counseling program.

Volunteer duties:

• Assist in cooking of meals for the children

• Develop and deliver creative arts and study activities with the kids

• Playing with the kids

• Support the cleaning of the accommodation

• Support fundraising activities of the center
