Description

The New York State Mentoring Program (NYSMP) works to build bridges of support for young people by connecting them to adults who have a desire to guide and empower. NYSMP utilizes a site-based mentoring program designed to match youth with adult mentors who can guide them in developing better self-esteem, creating healthy relationships and making positive life choice. With structured activities and a site coordinator to facilitate sessions, the program offer the maximum support to volunteer mentors and their mentees.

By partnering with schools, foster care agencies and community based organizations in New York, we provide youth with trained, caring adult mentors. Our program is a one-to-one, site-based mentoring program that meets for 4 to 6 hours a month (every week for an hour or every other week for two hours) between October and June at a designated time and location. We focus on both academic and (age-appropriate) social-emotional development by planning each session with opportunities to introduce new concepts to students in a fun and manageable way.

Mentoring sessions take place at a designated location at a set time.

With our program year kick-off soon, we are in need of mentors at our school partners throughout Brooklyn. Please contact us (dimple.patel@ocfs.ny.gov) for information on our locations and times.
