Description

Are you a first generation college graduate looking to help another student just like yourself achieve their college dreams and fulfill their goals? If so, become a mentor with Minds Matter LA - you'll work directly with a student for up to three years and help set them up for success in college and beyond! Your insight into their experiences will put you in a unique position, helping you relate to them and understand what skill sets are needed. You will build a relationship with your student that can truly last a lifetime!

Minds Matter is an organization dedicated to preparing motivated and bright students from low-income families to succeed in college. We work with students beginning in their sophomore year of high school all the way through their graduation from high school, both on academics (test prep, writing) and on life skills (time management, financial literacy, leadership). Each student is paired with two mentors who stay with them through the duration of the program. The vast majority of our students will be the first from their families to attend college, and we strive to give them the tools they need to thrive in college and in life.

As a mentor, you will work with the same student for all three years, helping them understand their goals and potential, supporting them as they navigate the various projects that are part of the program (such as applying to summer programs at universities across the country and defending a position in a full debate), and providing them individual encouragement and guidance.

For more information, visit the Minds Matter LA website at http://mindsmatterla.org/ or email us at info@mindsmatterla.org.
