Developing an eco-farm and training center in Mongolia

  • Volunteer Opportunity posted by CADIP

Short-Term (few weeks/months)

Since 2000, volunteers from all over the world have been participating in summer programs designed to improve the vegetable farm at Buhug River. During the last years, we focused more on improving the facilities, and not much on the farming methods. The way it's been done, farming and cultivating was not really productive and eco-friendly. Farmers in the area also face the same challenges. Despite the hard work farmers put in, the crop yields are low.

The aim of this project is to develop the farm as a training center for eco-farming, where local people can learn basic but important eco-farming methods and practices. The goal is to achieve the biggest harvest with the most effective methods for using the limited land. Volunteers will work in the vegetable eco-farm and develop the eco-farming training center. Vegetables from the eco-farm will be donated to poor and low income local families.

Volunteers' main tasks are removing weeds in the field, working in the greenhouse, making water canals for the farm, making compost, etc.

Study theme: Eco-farming methods and know-how from other countries.

Special requirements: Participants are expected to like farming/physical work and be flexible and adaptable.

Project dates:

  • July 10 - July 23, 2018
