Assist with English Teaching in a Spanish Classroom
- Volunteer Opportunity posted by InterExchange, Inc.
Part time (10-30 hrs/wk)
Short-Term (few weeks/months)
This is an ongoing opportunity with start dates during the spring/fall each year. Please see the InterExchange website for specific upcoming dates.
As an English teaching assistant you would support a local teacher in Spain, for up to 20 hours per week. The main teacher would be there to manage the class and run normal lessons, but you would have the chance to lead some lessons, work with breakout groups, etc. InterExchange provides sample lesson plans and you're encouraged to develop your own ideas. Feedback and support will be offered by the host school.
Accommodation will be provided by a local host family, which includes a private room and all of your meals. The families typically appreciate a few hours (3-5) of informal English tutoring (for their children) each week, in which case your teaching schedule at the school may be slightly reduced.
The idea is to gain teaching experience and have some time to engage with Spain in a genuine way, through the eyes of your host family and their community, through the school community, and your own exploration and travels. Programs are 4-12 weeks in the fall and spring.
