OPEN POSITION: community outreach COORDINATOR at NOURISH 


Starting: August/September (depending on visum) 2018, for a duration of 9-12 months (extension is possible)


About Nourish: 


Nourish is a community development project, located on the border with the Kruger Park in Mpumalanga, South Africa. We work with the local, rural communities to uplift and create a better world for everyone. We work around 5 pillars: education, conservation, sustainable farming, tourism and economic empowerment. 

We often work with oversees volunteers and interns, who come to help out for a few weeks or for a few months, depending on their program and background, this is who you will be working with.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Driver’s license is a must
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude, detail oriented
  • Open minded and curious to working with local communities 
  • Patient and respectful in communication
  • Creative personality
  • Being an animal/dog lover is a must
  • Being able to interact with people from different backgrounds
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Good organizational skills, being able to make and maintain own schedule
  • No ‘9-5’ mentality, being flexible and pro-active
  • Excellent english, both written and spoken
  • Passion for people, development and conservation
  • Background in sales is highly advantageous 
  • Excellent computer skills (microsoft office)
  • Background in (basic) business highly advantageous
  • Sewing skills highly advantageous
  • Previous experience with dogs or animals is a plus
  • Knowledge or background in community development or sustainability is a plus
  • Knowledge or background in crafting and/or ECD is a plus



RESPONSIBILITIES

As the community outreach coordinator you will be responsible for projects in the community. 

Your main focus will be on our Trash2Treasure project, setting up a craft centre at Nourish, hosting workshops etc. You will also be involved in RISE outreach, dog outreach, sanitary pad project, library book outreach and any other projects we might ask

Trash2Treasure

  • Maintain relationship with current crafters 
  • Identify new crafters
  • Do weekly visits with crafters
  • Order crafts, keep stock list
  • Work with crafters on quality control and pricing 
  • Visit lodges and craft shops to sell products 
  • Make a range of recycled crafts, and host workshops to teach to locals how to make them
  • Create cooperation between crafters to create products found online (e.g. on pinterest)@
  • Keep documentation of sales 
  • Help the set up of the new craft center at Nourish
  • Visit sewing project in Bushbuckridge about sanitary pads


Moringa 

  • Help in the development of our Moringa range 
  • Check on moringa production and quality check
  • Help set up day-spa at Nourish with local women


Economic Empowerment

  • Host basic business skills workshops (e.g. CV writing, basic costing, basic saving etc.)


RISE 

  • Visit village creches and assess on their needs and progress 
  • Make update reports to send to sponsors 
  • Sort and drop off donations
  • Facilitate and organize ECD training workshops 
  • Facilitate and organize recycled toy making workshops



DOG OUTREACH 

  • Attend weekly dog outreach in local village
  • Assist in dipping and deworming dogs
  • Arrange TVT treatments and sterilizations with dog owners and local vets
  • Do home visits explaining animal kindness



GENERAL NOURISH OUTREACHES

  • Facilitate, implement and assist in any extra Nourish events or outreaches (e.g. special environmental days, painting Green Kids schools, etc.)



Package:

  • This is a FREE program
  • Accommodation is included, you will be living in rondavels at the Nourish Eco Village, own room if possible
  • Food (3 meals per day at Nourish) included (no alcohol or restaurant meals)
  • Transport to all off-site projects
  • Car, if available, to use on the weekend for trips with volunteers (always confirm with management)
  • Wifi 
  • Laundry (except for socks and underwear)
