The mission of CommunityHealth is to serve those without essential health care. Founded in 1993, CommunityHealth is the largest free clinic in the nation, providing care to more than 10,000 low-income, uninsured individuals – through over 30,000 medical visits annually at health center in the West Town neighborhood. Recognizing the need to offer a special kind of safety net for the uninsured, CommunityHealth goes the extra mile to make a meaningful difference in the lives of thousands of patients in Chicago…because no one should go without healthcare.

CommunityHealth engages over 1,000 volunteers each year, including over 300 licensed providers, who allow us to provide free care to our patients. We are currently focused on growing our mental health team, with the hopeful addition of a bilingual, Spanish fluent counselor.

Volunteer counselors provide short term therapy (up to 12 sessions) in one-on-one counseling sessions to patients referred to and with interest in receiving counseling services at CommunityHealth.

Scheduling is flexible, and we ask for a minimum commitment of two, four-hour clinics per month for at least one year.
