After School Programming Tutor and Leader

900 Hour Position

Approximately 20 hours/week

Service Location: Prescott, AZ

Service Dates: September 1, 2018 – June 31, 2019

*Note: we also have a 300-hour position which is 8-10 hours a week





The mission of The Launch Pad Teen Center is to incite teen leadership and empowerment through innovative and community education and engagement. The Launch Pad does this by offering after-school programming, educational workshops and intensives, community volunteer projects, internships, community-building events, and summer camps. We serve a diversity of youth, many who are low-income, many who are in foster care, and several who are at risk of failing or dropping out of school, as well as high achievers who excel at school, come from supportive 2 parent households, and are on track for college. We believe it is essential to create a space where all teens can come together to build community regardless of their academic status, race, class, sexuality, gender identity, religion, or ability.


The AmeriCorps State Members will be working with teens ages 12-18 years old, from a diversity of backgrounds, in our after-school programming and tutoring. Throughout the school year we offer 6 different after school clubs, a garden club, an art club, a digital media club, a fitness club, an adventure club, and a community service club, as well as a tutoring program. The main activities that this position will focus on is facilitating and assisting in the planning of our after-school tutoring and clubs. The AmeriCorps members will build a safe and engaging after school community at The Launch Pad and document its success.




A.  Training and support: The AmeriCorps State member will attend trainings on youth driven space best practices, tutoring and academic coaching, and youth development. They will also attend training on group facilitation and youth empowerment. Afterward, they will begin planning activities and practice facilitation with The Launch Pad staff.


B.  Coaching and Leadership: The AmeriCorps members will coach and mentor teens in maintaining academic progress and success. They will also track teen involvement and progress for both tutoring and programming, collecting and analyzing the data. Additionally, they will design and plan both activities and tutoring methodology for the week.


C.  Outreach and Reporting: The AmeriCorps members will facilitate Afterschool Clubs and market clubs to middle school and high school students. In addition, they will draft a report for the Board of Directors, PUSD, and Donors on Club and Tutoring numbers, success rates, and areas for growth.

A.  Education, Skills and Abilities


Minimum qualifications:

o  Age 19 or older, 21 or older is a plus

o  Experience tutoring and working with youth

o  Experience facilitating activities and leading groups

o  Have a passion for empowering youth

o  Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Apps

o  Strong written and verbal communication skills

o  Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting in a consistent, energetic, and positive manner

o  Effective and creative problem-solving skills

o  Ability to understand the "big picture" while completing detail oriented tasks

o  Friendly and effective interpersonal skills

o  Healthy sense of humor

o  Access to a personal vehicle is not required


AmeriCorps State Member Benefits (900 Hour)

●    $6,265 living allowance during term of service

●    Upon completion of service, part-time (900 hour) AmeriCorps members receive a $2,907.50 education award that can be applied to educational costs or student loans

●    Members participate in 10 (2-hour) trainings that qualify them for a Certificate in Civic Leadership and 4 college credits from Prescott College

●    Team support and coaching
