Description

Canines & Company operates as a non-profit organization which rescues dogs from high-kill shelters, primarily Chicago Animal Care and Control, and trains them individually for their forever homes. We offer lifetime training assistance for each dog and all dogs will go through a great deal of training before being placed in homes to ensure a smooth transition from foster home to forever family. Qualifying dogs will be adopted out as emotional support animals for individuals in need. We are currently developing a service dog program, for which dogs with the highest credentials will be filtered through in the hopes of becoming a mobility or hearing alert dog.

Canines & Company also assists the surrounding human community, and offers educational presentations and community programming in order to provide the human-animal relationship to those who may not be able to take on full responsibility for an animal.

Canines & Company would like to invite the public to get involved with one (or more!) of our programs. Read the descriptions below to find out which opportunity fits you best.

Fostering a Rescue Dog

We are primarily a foster-based rescue. Canines & Company is looking for foster homes with people interested in creating a structured living environment critical for helping our dogs to succeed in training. Our dogs will have already gone through a period of training prior to being placed in the foster home, however we would ask that our foster parents upkeep the training at home and are involved in group training classes offered free of charge.

Volunteering Opportunities

Canines & Company works closely with a variety of facilities in the area, including a school and residency for at-risk youth. I will be offering a Group Class for the students to come and work on their “Junior Trainer” title. The youth will be working with both therapy dogs in our program and rescue dogs in order to learn about dog handling and how the dogs are trained. We will be needing 3 or more volunteers a week on Tuesdays 4:30 - 5:30. Background check is required for this program.
