Opportunity Description:

Anike Foundation is seeking volunteers to coordinate fundraising activities for its Small Grant Program. Using fundraising materials provided, this person will be responsible for identifying and reaching out to potential donors using a crowdfunding approach for projects under $500. The volunteer might also be asked to coordinate other types of support to contribute to the success of the project, such as matching volunteer expertise to project needs, depending on the interest of the volunteer and needs of the project.

Fundraising Coordinators should have strong communication and cross-cultural skills to work with both donors and program managers in Africa. They will need to set realistic targets and find creative ways to achieve them, while also managing the limitations of the scope of projects. The fundraising team will provide materials needed to approach donors, and the volunteer will be able to adapt those and create new materials.

Other duties of a small grants program coordinator include:

  • Following up on leads of potential donors, such as workplaces, church groups, Girl/Boy Scout troops, civic organizations, PTAs, etc. and utilizing one’s own network.
  • Communicating with donors about a specific project and types of support needed.
  • Identifying ways beyond financial contributions to connect people to partner organizations, such as a librarian helping set up a library, a teacher working with a counterpart on curriculum development, creating a website, etc.
  • Working with website and social media team to promote projects through Anike Foundation channels.

This is a great opportunity to develop fundraising and project management skills. In order to succeed in this position, a small grants program coordinator must have a willingness to learn about an organization and its needs, and then communicate this to donors who may have limited awareness of education needs across Africa. The size of the projects are designed for many people to contribute smaller amounts, allowing more people to be involved in supporting worthy education projects.
