Responsibilities and duties:
v Field hotline calls/business calls
v Provide emotional support to callers in crisis offering support, crisis intervention, referrals, information, and advocacy
v Perform pre-screens with callers
v Develop safety plans with callers
v Work with diverse populations
v Fill out appropriate paperwork
v Assist the staff with front desk duties for residents (get their medication, check bags, etc.)
v Maintain security of the safe house by monitoring who enters the building and greeting visitors
v Provide referrals and resources to callers
v Fulfill 2-3 four-hour shifts per week on average
v Additional opportunities can include case management and assistance with domestic violence support groups.
Minimum 4 hours per week between the hours of 8:30 AM and 8:30 PM seven days per week.
Sensitivity to and concern for women and children in crisis; maturity and good judgment; Remain calm and effective while multitasking strong interpersonal skills; ability to listen without judging or advising; dependability; ability to handle more than one task at a time; and bilingual ability very helpful, especially in English/Spanish and English/Portuguese.
Domestic Violence 101 and Hotline training is provided free of charge to all volunteers. BCI required
