Long-Term (6 months-1 year)
Love animals? Want to make a PAWS-itive impact in your local community? Help Mobile Meals of Southern Arizona deliver pet food to our homebound clients!
The People We Serve: MMSA’s mission is to preserve the health, dignity, and independence of homebound adults by providing home-delivered special diet meals and daily contact with a caring volunteer. Our clients live in Tucson, Green Valley, and Sahuarita, and must rely on others to prepare and deliver their meals for medical, financial, and/or age-related reasons.
This Project: The companionship of a pet or service animal makes a huge difference in quality of life for many of our clients. Mobile Meals, in collaboration with the Pima Alliance for Animal Welfare, will begin delivering dog and cat food to our clients at no charge this summer. Our goal is to ensure no person needs to make the difficult decision between feeding themselves and feeding or keeping their pet.
Who We Need: If you love both people and animals, have a car, and are able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, we need your help! Volunteers will deliver pet food on the second and fourth Fridays of each month for up to ten clients. Pick-up and delivery will generally take 2-3 hours. Volunteers should have a valid driver’s license, proof of car insurance, be able to pass a criminal background check, and be willing to commit 2 afternoons per month to this effort.
What You’ll Be Doing: Delivering pet food; providing information as requested about other services including vaccinations, licensing, spay/neuter, veterinary care, and grooming.
What You’ll Receive: Training and support provided by Mobile Meals of Southern Arizona and Pima Alliance for Animal Welfare; abundant gratitude; the knowledge that you’ve made a critical difference in the lives of people in your community. Mileage reimbursement available.
