Description

Leimert Park’s Day of the Ancestors: Festival of Masks is a celebration of our ancestors and an invocation for the community. Founded in 2010 by artists Najite Agindotan and Ben Caldwell in collaboration with LA Commons, Festival of Masks is a multicultural, multigenerational, and multimedia arts event that champions the vast identities of the African diaspora, focusing specifically on Brazil this year.

To ensure that the eighth annual Festival of Masks runs smoothly, LA Commons is calling on the community for support in the weeks leading up to the event and also on the day of the Festival, Sunday, June 24th.

We need volunteers to help at our Saturday workshops on June 16th and 23rd. Tasks include, but are not limited to, setting up the workshop, creating masks for the Festival, directing and overseeing youth artists, and cleaning up afterwards.

For the day of the Festival, LA Commons is asking for volunteers to assist with logistics, set-up and tear-down, traffic control during the Festival’s procession, manning vendor booths, marketing (posting about the event on social media, telling friends, etc.), modeling costumes, and much more.
