Volunteer(s) in this Ogiek Youth Empowerment Program is/are going to work with and in Ogiek Community; an indeginous and minority group living in Tinet, Kuresoi south, Kenya. The program seeks to enable the youths to realize their rights and become agent's of change in their community through offering them financial literacy and skills training, as well as improving their access to financial services.

Our need-assement survey reveals that approximately 56% of youths in this community are barely literate and are unemployed; most with no job skills. As it is in Kenya, the formal job market is limited, and therefore this leaves the low-paying and dangerous work for youth. Girls in particular, whom our survey shows that majority have not completed basic education, often find themselves vulnerable to sexual abuse.

Volunteer shall be offering training on the following areas to the youths:

  1. Financial literacy,
  2. Gender equality,
  3. Human and child rights,
  4. Health and sexual education,
  5. Critical and creative thinking skills,
  6. Life-long learning skills
